Have you noticed how mud kitchens are springing up everywhere? It’s a delightful epidemic and I thank Jan White and Liz Knowles for drawing attention to this simple yet profound concept. See my book review of Jan’s Making a Mud Kitchen.
Mud kitchens often take on attributes of their unique location and community. I’ve seen one near Dover that features mixing ground chalk with water to make milk!
Why are mud kitchens so satisfying? Perhaps because they combine basic elements of childhood: open-ended play, interest in food preparation and love of the outdoors!
